We, the Glendale Teachers Association, exist to protect and promote the well-being of our members and our students. Through building trust, clear communication, proactive involvement in our schools and community, along with responding to our members’ rights, needs, and concerns, we will serve as the local voice for public education.
LATEST NEWS FROM THE GTA
GTA and GUSD met Nov. 18 and are scheduled to meet again Dec. 2. On Nov. 18, the GTA shared its counterproposal with the GUSD. The GUSD had proposed on Oct. 14 to bring back some of our members for in-person instruction, assessment, and support services for some special education students. GTA's counter on Nov. 18 called for voluntary return of some unit members, increased health and safety measures, and was based upon the feedback from our recent member survey and on the current health conditions in our community.
The GUSD has said that it meets or exceeds all health requirements from Los Angeles County and California Departments of Public Health and the CDC; and that because "student and employee safety is and always will be our top priority," the GUSD is ready right now to welcome back students and staff.
The GTA disagrees with this assertion, and our member survey data and the District's own records and comments at the negotiations table have also shown that the GUSD is not yet ready to reopen schools for in-person instruction. Read some of the key documents here:
